European funds are financial instruments that support the implementation of particular EU policies in the Member States. One of the most important policies is Cohesion Policy, and its goals, from which the mainstreaming within the EU is mainstreamed, and the strengthening of economic, social and territorial cohesion, are achieved through the funds of the Cohesion and Structural Funds. The Cohesion Fund is intended for the financing of major infrastructure projects in the area of transport and environmental protection with a view to achieving EU economic and social cohesion and promoting sustainable development. The objective of the investment funded through the European Regional Development Fund is to strengthen economic and social cohesion and to reduce the development gap between the regions within the EU. The resources of the ERDF are intended for infrastructure investments, manufacturing investments and local development and small and medium-sized development. The funds of the European Social Fund support projects aiming to reduce living standards differences in the EU Member States and their regions and to promote economic and social cohesion. The implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy and the Common Fisheries Policy of the European Union are intended for: the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the European Fisheries Fund. With a view to better coordination, a clear link with the Europe 2020 Strategy and consistent implementation, the Cohesion Fund, the European Regional Development Fund, the European Social Fund, the European Agricultural Fund and the European Fisheries Fund will be linked to a common set of rules in the financial perspective 2014-2020 by the Regulation on common provisions. By common name, these funds are called European Structural and Investment Funds (ESI Funds). The central coordinating body responsible for managing EU funds is the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union funds.
