Women's rights are an issue that has been the subject of many discussions, activism and the fight for gender equality throughout history. Among the many controversial issues and violations of women's rights, one dark period in history stands out - the persecution of witches. The persecution of witches was a phenomenon that occurred during different periods, especially between the 15th and 17th centuries, when in Europe and North America there were mass accusations, trials and executions of women for their alleged connection to witchcraft. During this period, legal procedure and trial rules were very inadequate and biased, which further favored the persecution of witches. Courts often used forced confessions, torture, and irrational methods to "prove" the guilt of accused women. Women faced unfair procedures and were denied the right to a fair trial. This paper explores the position of women in the late Middle Ages and the belief in witches, and focuses on the trial of women accused of witchcraft. Through the analysis of sources, legal documents and historical records, it was intended to understand how the inquisition procedure against witches looked like in practice. The aim of this thesis was to provide an insight into the complexity of this phenomenon and an understanding of the position of women in the society of that time, as well as the influence of belief in witches on court proceedings. Through the analysis of relevant sources, the work contributes to a better understanding of the historical context of witchcraft and inquisition procedures and their impact on society.
