The paper deals with the external discrimination of women in the labor market. The aim of the work is to point out the specific position of women on the labor market and to explain and show the origins and consequences of external discrimination of women on the labor market. One of the fundamental rights of women is the right not to be discriminated against in the workplace. The problems faced by women in the case of external discrimination in the labor market are the lack of access to the labor market, the difference in earnings and the so-called "glass ceiling", which is described in more detail in this paper. All these problems are the main cause of discrimination against women. The paper presents the position of women on the labor market in the world, the Republic of Croatia and the European Union together with current statistics and legal frameworks that determine the position of women on the labor market. The legal framework that guarantees the protection of external discrimination against women in the labor market is quite extensive, and its inadequate application in practice leads to numerous failures in remedying discrimination against women. First of all, it is necessary to change the source of the problem of external discrimination against women on the labor market, and after that, of course, to remediate their consequences. That path was and will be slow and difficult, but work to raise awareness of society, especially young people, regarding external discrimination against women and gender equality, will change the perception we have. Social work can greatly contribute to this purpose through supporting and changing social policy, national plans, advocacy and empowerment of the users themselves and the general public. A woman has the right to be equal, and it is the legal mechanisms that must and should enable her to have that right.
