The legal profession as an independent and autonomous service has experienced turbulent development around the world and in Croatia, so its development has been woven into the distant past since ancient Rome and Greece. But the purpose of engaging in this activity is almost the same as before - to provide assistance to those who must / want to exercise their rights and interests. All this is done today while preserving the reputation, dignity and independence of the profession, which are the basic principles of this activity. The legal profession as an institution is therefore based on providing a certain form of (legal) assistance to people in need. In Croatia, it began to develop from the 13th century, many regulations and documents were passed that dealt with it, such as the Vindol Act, the most important changes occurred in the 19th and early 20th century. In the period from 1848 until 1918, a number of important changes took place that modernized the legal profession, such as the First and Second Orders of the Law. Today, the legal profession is based on past events and as far as the legal profession in Croatia is concerned, it has developed with constant political and legal turmoil, especially in this period. All this was a long process that today marked the modern pursuit of this activity. Therefore, the subject of this paper is to present the development of the legal profession in Croatia in the period 1848-1918.
