In the area of Mesopotamia, the first forms of archives appear and then during Greece and Rome. Each of these areas has its own unique history regarding archives. In the 18th century, the French Revolution emerged as a separate development of the archives, through which some major changes were made. Furthermore, it is not until the 19th century that a more serious form of archives begins to emerge. In Croatia, the beginning of the development of the Terrestrial Archives was the appointment of Ivan Kukuljevic Sakcinsky as Terrestrial Archivist. This was followed by years until the first law on the preservation of archives was passed. The first law of this kind dates from 1870 and is the 1870 Act of Organizing the Land Archive. The beginning of collecting archives goes back to the past, but each area has its own history of beginning to collect it. There are eighteen regional state archives in the Republic of Croatia today, and one of the most important of which is the headquarters of all of them is the Croatian State Archives, whose headquarters are in Zagreb. Each of these archives had a different start to its founding and to the beginning of collecting the protection of archives. All these archives have gone a thorny path to the present day, when they have all the necessary conditions, resources, personnel who are skilled in the work and various other modern methods that preserve, protect and use archival material and other documentation of significant importance.
