The challenges of modern consumer relations and bustling lifestyle started a development of mechanisms for consumer protection. Harmonization of Croatian legislation with European community acquits brought to accepting mechanisms of alternative dispute resolutions in consumer disputes. Aim of that was creating unique procedure in every state member of European Union. These mechanisms enable more accessible, faster, cheaper and more efficient dispute resolutions in consumer disputes, domestic and cross-border disputes and all in aim to realize consumer rights. Consumer is often party in the proceedings that is weaker in opposition to treader and very quickly gives up for seeking legal protection. In addition to that, court proceedings are lengthy and uncertain as well the value of the subject matter of the dispute is low. Therefore, the success of legal protection is questionable for consumer. Harmonization of national legislation and acceptance of mechanisms for alternative dispute resolutions were necessary in Croatian law system. The aim of this thesis is to show the specifics of the conciliation procedure in consumer disputes towards conciliation in general. Further, define the legislative framework and describe the conciliation procedure in consumer disputes. Inclusive, legal consequences arising from the initiation of proceedings and decision-making in consumer disputes. Given that our legislator was late in harmonization national regulations, conciliation procedure in consumer disputes, in practice, are not sufficiently developed like it is in other state members. That is why it is necessary to inform the public about new out-of-court and alternative dispute proceedings and conciliation in consumer disputes.
