The subject of this paper is the legal framework and suppression of money laundering through cryptocurrencies. The aim is to present methods of combating money laundering through cryptocurrencies, with a detailed overview of the existing legal framework and institutions responsible for oversight and regulation. As the popularity of cryptocurrencies has grown, so has their use for illegal purposes. To effectively combat illicit activities related to cryptocurrencies, there is a need to develop a regulatory legal framework that requires broader international cooperation. This approach enables better prevention, detection, and proof of criminal activities involving crypto assets. A significant step toward stricter cryptocurrency regulation is the European Union's introduction of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation. Although the full impact of this regulation is yet to be seen after its implementation, its goal is to establish a clearer legal framework and enhance security and transparency in the cryptocurrency market. The paper provides a detailed explanation of cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, and other features of digital currencies to understand their use for illegal purposes. Additionally, it outlines the stages of money laundering, comparing traditional methods with those involving cryptocurrencies, and highlighting the unique challenges of tracking digital financial transactions.
