Neglect is the most common form of violation of children's rights and manifests as a lack of interest from parents in their child's needs. It is often difficult to recognize, which complicates timely and appropriate intervention. Neglect is not always intentional, which contributes to its prevalence, as many parents are unaware that their behavior constitutes neglect. This paper emphasizes the importance of recognizing neglect. Identifying signs of neglect and highlighting them can potentially raise awareness about the frequency of neglect and its consequences. Signs of neglect are not uniform, clearly defined, or precisely determined. Recognizing neglect requires a thorough understanding of the causes and risk factors leading to neglect, different forms of neglect, and the consequences it entails. Various causes lead to specific forms of neglect, resulting in severe consequences across various aspects of a child's life and development. It is crucial for social workers and other professionals working with children to be educated and aware of the importance of recognizing neglect, potential causes, and long-term consequences. To provide adequate help and support to neglected children, work with families and the community must focus on understanding and addressing this issue. Given the number of neglected children, the current situation, and the need for solid education, it is necessary to develop quality preventive programs. Implementing such programs by social workers can raise awareness among current and future parents, as well as within the community, about the relevance of recognizing neglect, the factors leading to it, and its resulting consequences.
