People with disabilities encounter difficulties in their daily functioning and, depending on the type and degree of disability, they need support and help through the personal assistance service. The service is recognized for persons with disabilities according to the conditions prescribed by the Personal Assistance Act. In the introductory part of the work, the concepts of a person with a disability and personal assistance services will be defined, as well as the prevalence of people with a disability in the Republic of Croatia, which is 17% of the total population. The central part of the work will show the history and development of the personal assistance service, which began to develop through project financing under the name "Independent Living" in 2000. Each of the personal assistance services that are adapted to different needs and types of impairments for people with disabilities will be described in detail, namely: personal assistance, support during the educational process provided by a teaching assistant if needed by a child with developmental disabilities and expert communication mediator, communication mediator and visual companion. In the final part of the work, the attitudes and satisfaction of persons with disabilities towards the personal assistance service they use will be analyzed with the aim of changing it and improving the provision of the service itself.
