Violence against women is seen as the most widespread form of violation of people's fundamental rights. Today, there is an increasing number of cases of this form of violence, despite the fact that a large number of cases are not even reported. What most affects the lack of violence reports is the view of women on the impact of reporting, with fear of provoking perpetrators of violence, which can encourage even more severe violence or the opinion of women that there is no person who could help in this situation. While we are witnessing a huge problem of violence against women, not only at national level but also globally, there are no devastating figures in the public, nor are there sufficient efforts to raise the awareness of today’s society. It is extremely important that the public be shown how unacceptable this form of violence is and that every such case should be reported to the competent authorities. It is also important to promote in the public adequate assistance and support for women victims of violence, not only by competent state bodies, but also by civil society organizations. Consequently, the paper first presents the problem of violence against women, conceptual definition and forms of violence against women, causes and consequences, as well as statistics of different forms of violence against women. The national and international legal framework governing the protection of women against violence was then presented. Furthermore, in order to link of the social work profession to action aimed at combating, preventing and solving cases of violence against women, the theoretical framework of social work profession, the different levels of action in social work and the essential characteristics of each level of action are presented. The most important part of this paper is the analysis and presentation of the role of social work in combating violence against women.
