Support for families with people with disabilities plays a key role in ensuring their quality of life and inclusion in society. The medical model started from the point of view that the problem is with the person with disability and that experts should "fix" them, but according to the social model, the problem is no longer with the people with disabilities but with society, which must adapt to them and make them equal members of the community. The social environment can be a great source of difficulties for people with disabilities and their families due to the feeling of isolation and discrimination. Instead of a risk factor, the social environment should be a protective factor, it should reduce family stress, provide support, professional and quality help, and work on the inclusion of people with disabilities in society and equalizing their rights with other members of the community. This paper deals with sources of support for families with people with disabilities. The purpose of the paper is to describe formal and informal sources of support, to see the difference between them and to get a more detailed insight into the social welfare system, i.e. the rights and services to which families and people with disabilities are entitled. In this process, social workers have a key role in providing support to families by providing information about available services and rights, representing their interests and preventing institutionalization. Their presence ensures that families are equipped with appropriate information, support and guidance, resulting in improved inclusion and quality of life for both people with disabilities and their families.
