The subject of this thesis is to present the modalities of combating drug abuse in the Republic of Croatia. In addition to the well-known drugs on the market, a bigger problem is represented by the so-called new psychoactive substances. One of the negative consequences of the appearance of such substances is a serious danger to human health and life. Drug abuse is tried to be suppressed by criminal law and misdemeanor law solutions contained in the relevant provisions of the law. Penal law provisions are prescribed by the Penal Code and prescribe sanctions in the form of imprisonment for the perpetrator. Misdemeanor provisions related to the suppression of drug abuse are prescribed in several laws, among which the Law on the Suppression of Drug Abuse is applied to the greatest extent. Such misdemeanor law provisions, in contrast to criminal law provisions, prescribe sanctions for the offender primarily in the form of fines, with the possibility of a prison sentence. Through this graduate work, the ways of suppressing drug abuse will be presented through the laws that are applied in case of committing a criminal offense or a misdemeanor related to drug abuse. Since this is a global problem, cooperation is necessary between countries and organizations dealing with solving this problem, which will be discussed in more detail in the continuation of this thesis.
