Abstract
Zbog prava svakog čovjeka na tjelesni integritet i samoodređenje, svaki pacijent ima pravo odlučiti hoće li se podvrgnuti nekom medicinskom tretmanu. Naravno, takva ozbiljna odluka mora se donijeti na temelju pouzdanih i cjelovitih informacija. Dakle, zadaća je liječnika da obavijesti pacijenta, na njemu razumljiv način, o svim okolnostima njegovog medicinskog stanja. Kada je pacijent dijete, obavijesti primaju i odluke donose roditelji toga djeteta, vođeni njegovim najboljim interesom. Ipak, kao što će se vidjeti, to je ideal koji nije uvijek beziznimno dostižan. Najbolji interes djeteta je subjektivan pojam. Jednako je subjektivna i potreba da se djeca zaštite od njihovih vlastitih odluka o njihovom životu i zdravlju.
Abstract (english)
Due to right of every person to physical integrity and self-determination, every patient has a right to decide if he is going to subject himself to a certain medical treatment. Of course, such a serious decision must be based on reliable and thorough information. Thus, it is a duty of the doctor to inform a patient, in a comprehensible manner, about all the circumstances of his medical condition. When said patient is a child, information is received and decisions are made by parents guided by best interest of said child. However, that is an ideal which is not always easily attainable. Best interest of a child is a subjective term. Just as subjective is the need to protect children from their own decisions about their own life and health.
