Abstract
Povijest Dubrovačke Republike od njezinog osnivanja, razdoblja vrhovne zaštite ugarsko – hrvatskih kraljeva odnosno „zlatnog doba“ i na kraju do gašenja Republike od strane Francuza 1808. godine. Opis dubrovačkih državnih obilježja zbog kojih su bili prepoznatljivi u cijelom svijetu. Zatim, ustrojstvo državne vlasti unutar Republike te glavne institucije od kojih se ističu Senat, Malo i Veliko Vijeće i Knez. Razvoj vanjskih poslova Dubrovačke Republike, te vješto razvijanje odnosa s tada morskim, a i gospodarim velesilama: Venecijom, Turskom, Španjolskom i Papinskom državom. Zapadne kršćanske zemlje su posebno podržavale Dubrovačku Republiku zbog položaja koju je Republika imala, jer je svojim položajem bila zadnji kršćanski bastion pred velikom Otomanskim carstvom. Pojedinci koji su se isticali zalaganjem za opstojnost Dubrovačke Republike i njezin prosperitet su Ivan Stojković, Vice Bune, Marin Getaldić, Stjepan Gradić i Ruđer Bošković. Iz tih odnosa razvila se na daleko poznata diplomacija koja je pomoću diplomatskih predstavnika, a kasnije i konzularne službe vješto održavala Dubrovačku Republiku među vodećim državama tadašnjeg doba.
Abstract (english)
The history of the Republic of Ragusa since it's foundation, periods of supreme protection of Croatian-hungarian kings called „ the golden age“ and until the end of the Republic by French in 1808. Description of Ragusa' s state features that make the Republic known all over the world. Then, the organization of state government inside the Republic and the main institutions like The Senate, the Small Council, the Grand Council and Rector. The development of foreign affairs of The Republic of Ragusa, and skilfully development of relationships with sea and economic great powers: Venice, Turkey, Spain and Papal States. West Christian countires especially supported The Republic of Ragusa because of it's location and because it's position was the last Christian bastion in front of the big Ottoman Empire. The individuals that distinguished with it's devotion for survival of The Republic and it's prosperity are Ivan Stojković, Vice Bune, Marin Getaldić, Stjepan Gradić and Ruđer Bošković. Well known diplomacy was developed from that relationships which, with the help of diplomatic representatives and later with consular service maintained The Republic of Ragusa among leading countires of that time.
