Abstract
Ovim radom obuhvaćena je tema zaštite (ili prava) životinja, s naglaskom na brojne promjene koje je tema doživjela kroz povijest. Rad je koncipiran u nekoliko cjelina, i svaka od njih se odnosi na određeno područje. Iako su neka od područja opširna, u radu se ne nalaze svi detalji zakonodavnih rješenja, nego rad pruža općeniti prikaz, od samih početaka (prije nove ere) pa do današnjeg dana. Osim uvoda i zaključka, cjeline u radu se odnose na povijest zaštite i prava životinja, zaštitu i prava životinja u Republici Hrvatskoj, životinje koje se koriste u znanstvene svrhe, te zaštitu životinja u Europskoj uniji. Naglasak je na promjenama koje su se događale tijekom godina. Kao i u raznim drugim područjima, svijest ljudi se s godinama mijenjala, što je rezultiralo i brojnim promjenama u zakonodavnim rješenjima država.
Abstract (english)
This paper covers the topic of animal protection (or rights), with focus on changes that the topic experienced throughout history. The work is divided into several sections, and each of them is related to a specific area. Although some of the areas are extensive, the paper does not contain all the details of legislative solutions, but the work provides a general overview from the very beginnings (before the new era) to the present day. Apart from introductory and conclusion, topics are history of animal protection and animal rights, protection and animal rights in the Republic of Croatia, animals used for scientific purposes and animal protection in the European Union. The emphasis is on changes that have taken place over the years. As in many other areas, people's consciousness has changed over the years, resulting in numerous changes in the legislative solutions in many countries.
