The rise in domestic violence is unfortunately a reality in many countries of the world, including in the Republic of Croatia. Domestic violence is no longer considered a private problem but a violation of human rights. Domestic violence has many forms, and a large number of cases still remain unreported. In the Republic of Croatia, domestic violence is regulated through a number of laws that should ensure prevention and protection of persons whose fundamental human rights are violated through various forms of violence. Victims of violence should be protected, and perpetrators should be adequately punished according to legal provisions. The main goal of this paper is to point out the frequency of domestic violence in the Republic of Croatia and the different forms of domestic violence that are prevalent in the society. The paper also presents the institutions that offer support to victims of domestic violence. By identifying the challenges faced by victims of domestic violence and the institutions of society, especially the social workers and their core responsibilities in dealing with domestic violence, helps to clarify the solution to this growing problem of our time. A special contribution of this thesis is an insight into the positive and negative role of social networks in cases of domestic violence.
