Abstract
Kontinuirani porast starog stanovništva i produljenje životnog vijeka donosi nove izazove ekonomiji, zdravstvu i sustavu socijalne skrbi, kako država diljem svijeta, tako i Republike Hrvatske. Starenje je prirodan, ali individualan proces koji sa sobom nosi značajne biološke, psihološke i fizičke promjene koje se često percipiraju na pogrešan način. Stereotipi i predrasude, a nerijetko i diskriminacija temeljena na dobi postaju sve već problem u suvremenom društvu. Cilj rada je ukazati na važnost ovoga problema te prikazati uzroke i posljedice ovih konstrukata koje ostavljaju traga na cjelokupnom društvu, a ne samo na starijoj populaciji. U radu će biti prikazana promjena percepcije starenja kroz povijest, sveprisutnost ageizma u svim životnim područjima, kao i snažan utjecaj medija na razvoj negativnih stavova o starijima. Rad će prikazati i smjernice za suočavanje s ovim rastućim problemom iz perspektive socijalnog rada ističući važnost edukacije, kreiranja novih socijalnih politika, senzibilizaciju društva prema osobama starije životne dobi te provedbu koncepata socijalnog rada s osobama starije dobi.
Abstract (english)
The continuous increase of the older population and the extension of life expectancy bring new challenges to the economy, healthcare and the social welfare system, both in countries around the world and in the Republic of Croatia. Aging is a natural but individual process that brings with it significant biological, psychological and physical changes that are often perceived in the wrong way. Stereotypes and prejudices, and often discrimination based on age, are increasingly becoming a problem in modern society. The aim of the paper is to point out the importance of this problem and show the causes and consequences of these constructs that leave a mark on the entire society, not just older people. The paper will show the change in the perception of aging throughout history, the ubiquity of ageism in all areas of life, as well as the strong influence of the media on the development of negative attitudes about older people. The paper will also show guidelines for dealing with this growing problem from the perspective of social work, emphasizing the importance of education, creation of new social policies, sensitization of society towards older people and the implementation of social work concepts with older people.
