Abstract
The subject of this final paper is language competence in the practice of social work, as well as the lack of language competence as a barrier in social work practice. In the framework of their professional lives, social workers encounter a rather diverse base of users, who come from different backgrounds and often very different cultures. It is precisely for this reason that it is crucial that social workers, as professionals, master the necessary competencies in order to be able to perform their work with increasing quality. One of the key competences in the profession of social work is language competence, also referred to as communication competence. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to show the necessity of language competences in the social work profession, both in the context of communication, and in working with clients from different cultural backgrounds. These issues will be presented in the context of existing competences in social work and through the analysed foreign and domestic literature, as well as a series of research papers. Finally, the negative consequences of the lack of language competences in working with various user groups will be additionally presented.
Abstract (croatian)
Predmet istraživanja u ovom završnom radu jest jezična kompetencija u praksi socijalnog rada, kao i nedostatak iste kompetencije kao prepreka u praksi socijalnog rada. U okviru svog profesionalnog života, socijalni radnici susreću se s vrlo raznolikom bazom korisnika, koji dolaze iz različitih sredina i često veoma različitih kultura. Upravo je iz tog razloga ključno da socijalni radnici, kao profesionalci, svladaju potrebne kompetencije kako bi bili u mogućnosti svoj posao obavljati što kvalitetnije. Jedna od ključnih kompetencija u profesiji socijalnog rada jest jezična kompetencija, odnosno komunikacijska kompetencija. Stoga je cilj ovog rada prikazati nužnost jezičnih kompetencija u profesiji socijalnog rada, kako u kontekstu same komunikacije, tako i u radu s klijentima iz različitih kulturnih sredina. Isto će se prikazati u kontekstu postojećih kompetencija u socijalnom radu te povezati s obrađenom stranom i domaćom literaturom te odabranim istraživačkim radovima. Naposlijetku, dodatno će se prikazati negativni učinci nedostatka jezičnih kompetencija u radu s raznim korisničkim skupinama u praksi socijalnog rada.
