As information and communications technology became an essential part of everyday life it is not surprising that information and communications technology has found its place in public administration. Adaptation of information and communications technology transformed public administration in the way public services are given and, in the way, public administration collaborates with citizens, legal persons and other bodies of public administration. In the scope of social welfare there are numerous possibilities of implementation of information and communications technology but on the other hand further effort in securing accessibility and maximum protection in respect of the sensitive nature of shared information in the area of social welfare is needed. The subject of this paperwork is the overview of development and current state of e-Government in Republic of Croatia with additional emphasis on implementation of information and communications technology in social welfare. In addition, the strategical and legal framework tied to the informatization of public administration is shown. Additionally, to statistical data about the state of Croatian e-Government this paperwork displays use of information and communications technology in social welfare in different European countries. Also, the brief review of the concept of digital divide is given.
