The topic of this paper is „Persons with disabilities in the labor market". We live in times where after completing a formal education it is difficult to find a job that would fully fulfill us. People with disabilities are in an even more difficult situation because they face many prejudices and underestimation by other people on a daily basis. The 2006 Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has led to a new approach to the persons concerned, respecting their right to independence and self-determination. States parties are obliged to make changes on a political and legal basis to enable these persons to exercise their human rights and fundamental freedoms and the opportunity to live as full members of society who can contribute to it. In the first part of the paper, I will present the legislative framework of the Republic of Croatia which regulates the term „Person with Disability" and some characteristic rights of persons with disabilities. In the central part, I will explain the position of persons with disabilities in the labor market in the Republic of Croatia and present some specific institutes that regulate their position. I would also like to show the position of these people within the European Union and some countries around the world that nurture different approaches to the employment of people with disabilities.
