Abstract
Although research has been conducted and the literature on language minorities as social welfare beneficiaries exists, the research on the topic of the paper revealed the lack of a detailed analysis of the impact of language barriers on the client-social worker relationship. Moreover, it is important to emphasize how cultural differences affect the very process of establishing a positive relationship between the social service user and the social worker. Regardless of the fact that social work is based on humanism and empathy, it is questionable whether discrimination is present in working with the minority language speaker as a user of social services and how it can be removed. The paper also analyzes how the current COVID-19 pandemic affected the context of social work with migrants and language minorities, as well as mass migrant movements which, despite the pandemic, did not significantly reduce the movement within European borders.
