Abstract
U ovom diplomskom radu obrađena je tema progona vještica u Hrvatskoj i Europi u razdoblju srednjega vijeka i početkom novoga. Pojam vještice ili čarobnjaka odnosi se na osobu koja se bavi nadnaravnim. Smatra se da vještica da bi imala nadnaravne moći mora biti odana đavlu i mora s njime sklopiti ugovor, za što se smatralo da predstavlja prijetnju širem pučanstvu i zbog čega su ih počeli progoniti i podvrgavati kaznenim postupcima. U ovom radu osvrt je na crkvene kaznene sudove, a isto tako i na crkveni kazneni postupak, od čega se istiće inkvizitorni kazneni postupak. Na hrvatskim prostorima postojali su progoni vještica kao posljedica tadašnjih europskih teoloških razmišljanja. Vještice su ispitivane na mukama i redovito spaljivane na lomači. Također, u ovom radu obrađuje se i djelovanje dominikanskog reda u njegovim počecima te njihovoga začetnika Dominica de Guzmana, a sve do vremena prvih inkvizitora koji su provodili progone u ime crkve.
Abstract (english)
This thesis deals with the topic of witch-hunt in Croatia and Europe during Middle Ages and the beginning of Modern History. A witch or a magician refers to a person dealing with the supernatural. It was a belief that a witch in order to have supernatural abilities had to be loyal to the Devil and thus have a contract with him. This was considered to be a threat to the common public and it resulted in prosecutions and criminal proceedings. What I am going to write about in this work are Church Criminal Courts, their criminal proceedings and mostly the procedures of the Holy Office. Croatian territories had also had witch hunts as a consequence of the theological mindsets in other parts of Europe. The witches were tortured and usually burned at a stake. This work deals with the Dominican order at its beginnings, its maker Dominic de Guzman up to the era of the first inquisition implementers doing their work in the name of the church.
