In this thesis it is corresponded to the causes of the crime of women from the first recorded until the last decades when contemporary crimology is being dealt with. The social and cultural expectations set to women are designed to almost completely shut off any form of crime. The aim of the thesis is to determine which causes led to criminal consequences, and are not related to „typical feminine features“ of mild creatures whose primary task is to preserve family and social values. With the development of society and strengthening of the women's rights movement, the prejudice of the overwhelming values of improperness and occasional verbal outbreaks are being lost, and women act criminally and do criminal offenses that do not fall under the terms of honor and dignity. Various researches in the history of women's criminal behaviour lead to the fact that the number of committed crimes is considerably lower and in decline for years that are undergoing, and the result is recognition of the real life circumstances to which women are exposed. The punishment of deprivation of liberty is generally lower compared to male offenders, resocialization is more successful and number of criminal returnees is negligible.
