The rights of children of prisoners are considered extremely important because children face special challenges and vulnerabilities. If the child is separated from one or both parents the right to regularly maintain personal and direct relationships with both parents must be respected. Children must have the guaranteed right to freely express their opinions and attitudes and, in accordance with their age and maturity, they should be respected. There are frequent situations in which the other parent or family member interrupts every contact of the child with the parent who is in prison, and this is mostly a reflection of mutual conflict. The body conducting the procedure must consider and determine the opinion of the child and respect his will. Children should be given the necessary support because children imagined things that are much worst that the real situation. The feel fear for their parents' lives, feel guilty and fear for the future. It is important for the child to understand that he is not the one who is punished for the parents' bad behavior and that he understands that there are punishments for adults, as well as for them, in case of disobeying the rules. We should strive to create an environment in which the children of prisoners’ will have the opportunity to realize their full potential by respecting them in the best possible way.
