Violence is a pronounced social problem today. The key reason for this is the fact that violence is no longer viewed as a private, but as part of a public problem. Violence represents an unwanted act of behavior towards a victim of violence, and in this paper the emphasis is on violence against women. It is precisely women who are the most frequent victims of violence. It is about violence that includes any act of gender-based violence, and it occurs in different forms. Violence against women very often goes unnoticed and equally undocumented, given that very few women decide to report the abuser. Recognizing violence against women is a very important personal, family and public health problem, that is, a problem for society as a whole. In dealing with the problem of violence against women, it is especially necessary to direct support and help to women who experience abuse. It is the provision of support and assistance that represents a special moral obligation of professionals and equally of the entire community. The aim of this paper is to present the problem, the legal framework, the role of social work and examples of good practice in the context of the fight against violence against women.
