The topic of the paper is the education of unaccompanied children and children under the international protection. In this paper, we will see who these children actually are and what difficulties they face in the Croatian educational system. The work will be based on the problems in access to education and problems in schooling itself, from language learning to changing the environment and culture, discrimination, but also the trauma of being separated from the family and the specific experiences of children who had to travel alone. Namely, very little is written and talked about this, so apart from the legal literature itself, there is not much research based on these kind of problems. This indicates the fact that these children are often forgotten or considered less important because they are a minority or they are not staying a long time in our system but will migrate somewhere further. Such a specific problem also affected our city of Osijek, where two minors from Egypt were placed in the juvenile correctional institution which is an institution that takes care of children with behavioral problems. From this, we can see that the city of Osijek does not have an institution that can take care of such a category of children and provide them an environment in which they will be able to receive the psychosocial support they need for normal development. We also know that in theory there are laws that deal with such problems and regulate the rights of migrant children in these areas, but the Croatian justice system is sluggish and slow, so the law is often implemented late, and sometimes, unfortunately, not at all.
