Air transport is the fastest growing branch of transport in the world. In accordance with its expansion, there is a need to protect the users of the end service - passengers. Passenger rights are evolving at national, global and european level. New challenges are emerging every day that need to be addressed in order to protect the rights of passengers. In the European Union, the most significant contribution to the protection of passengers' rights was made by Regulation 261/2004 laying down general rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of denied boarding and cancellation or long delay of departure. In parallel with this Regulation, Regulation 1107/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 July 2006 on the rights of persons with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility when traveling by air shall apply. At the global level, the most important document regulating passenger rights is the Montreal Convention, which arose from the need to improve the provisions of the Warsaw Convention, which, according to critics, did not sufficiently regulate passenger rights or provide them with adequate protection. The importance of regulating the rights of air passengers was particularly evident during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is unfortunately still ongoing, when heads of state restricted entry to their countries due to the reduced spread of this contagious disease, all based on protection public health. With the advancement of technology, aircraft have also developed, as well as the possibility for passengers to exercise their rights, so that today it is possible to resolve a dispute with a carrier directly through the platform on the European Union's website. Despite progress, methods such as litigation or conciliation remain relevant in the protection of passengers' rights.
