Abstract
Osobe s intelektualnim teškoćama kroz povijest su bile u nepovoljnom položaju, često su etiketirane kao nepoželjne i kao manje vrijedni članovi društva. Smatrajući ih teretom u društvu i nesposobnima izdvajani su iz društva i smješteni u institucije. Iako je cilj institucija bio da se korisnicima pruži terapija i rehabilitacija, kako bi nadoknadili svoje nedostatke, vrijeme je pokazalo da je takav pristup segregacijskog tipa doveo do velike diskriminacije i socijalne izolacije osoba s intelektualnim teškoćama. Nerijetko se događalo da osobe koje su u mlađoj životnoj dobi smještane u institucije u njima provedu cijeli svoj život. Prelaskom sa medicinskog modela na socijalni, po prvi put javlja se uvođenje i provođenje mjera politike deinstitucionalizacije osoba s intelektualnim teškoćama, te se uključuju u socijalne zajednice. Tijekom 1997. godine u Hrvatskoj je osnovana Udruga za primicanje inkluzije kojoj je cilj i misija izmjestiti korisnike iz institucija i smjestiti ih u zajednicu, te unaprijediti kvalitetu života korisnika i osnažiti ih za samoostvaren život.
Abstract (english)
People with intellectual disabilities have historically been disadvantaged, often labeled as undesirable and as less valuable members of society. Considering them a burden in society and incompetent, they were singled out of society and placed in institutions. Although the aim of the institutions was to provide users with therapy and rehabilitation, in order to compensate for their shortcomings, time has shown that this approach of the segregation system has led to great discrimination and social isolation of people with intellectual disabilities. It has often happened that people who are placed in institutions at younger age spend their whole lives in them. With the transition from the medical model to social, for the first time the policy of deinstitutionalization of people with intellectual disabilities arises, and they start to become involved in social communities. In 1997, the Association for Promoting Inclusion was founded in Croatia, which aims to relocate users from institutions and place them in the community, and improve the quality of life of users and strengthen them for a self-made life.
